The original of the symbol is Thracian gold application for a warrior’s arm with the image of a lion’s head and typical solar symbols. The application is found in a temple-tomb of Seuthes III in Golyama Kocmatka mound (Shipka town, Kazanlak area).

The symbolic message of the whole application unites the sun and its unlimited power. The entire culture of the Thracians and the power of their ruler is under the protection of the sun. All symbols of the ruler show this connection with the main god Helios (Sun). One of the solar images is the lion, also a symbol of power, vigor and manliness. That’s why the solar symbols are used by the ruler as a sign of their godlike power.
